"I Bruise Easily"
I'm not sure what is wrong with me (or Natasha Bedingfield's album for that matter) but I keep finding bruises on me when I least expect them.
Case in point, after Whistler I knew my legs were sore but couldn't see any bruising from all the snowboarding... and finally a week later my legs have turned half green in recovery. Then this morning I found another bruise on the back of my leg, not sure where it came from but is the same colour as my other ones so must have gotten it last week as well. More disturbing still, is 2 days after renting bikes and going around the seawall and out to Yaletown and back, my bum still hurts from the uncomfortable seating. Charleyhorsed or whatnot. I can't tell if I've got any bruises down that way but it sure feels like it.
Re: Natasha Bedingfield's CD "Unwritten"... has to be the most inconsistently themed CD I have ever heard. Don't get me wrong, it's not completely horrible ("These Words" and "Unwritten" are favourites), but she goes from singing about being glad to be "Single" to declaring, "I'm A Bomb" to the next guy who might turn her on... then whines, "I Bruise Easily" as if to warn guys of her emotional imbalance. Come on, woman - make up your mind! How high maintenance. She sums it up with, "We're All Mad." Go figure. Oh and apparently "Size Matters" as well. Good luck guys.

Whistler, take 2.
Ahhhhhhhh I am in so much pain. Why did I take up this sport again? Oh right, because I look good in winter clothing. And a snowboard is easier to carry than skis and poles and ridiculously uncomfortable boots.
So Saturday morning we (the Boob, her friend Karla "F'koff", and Blondie) left Vancouver around 6:30 and got to Whistler around 8:30, parked the car at the hotel and parted ways to ski/board. Hena and Karla were up for taking a lesson, and it was a good thing, too, as first-timers, they got a smokin' deal at $75.00 CAD a pop for lift tickets, rentals, and all-day lesson. To put that in perspective, a half-day lesson plus lift tickets & rentals runs about $150.00. Blondie & I bought our lift tickets in advance at a cheap rate as well, $99.00/2 lift tickets.
While they were off learning to ski, we went up to the top of Whistler for a day of skiing/boarding. Not so bad, except I soon realized that I haven't gotten to the point where I am experienced/confident enough to handle some of the speeds I was going at, which made me slow down (i.e. snow-plough) a lot, which in turn, when going down the 'easy' trails, made it a lot harder to pick up enough momentum to go up the little mini hills when they came along. Blast. At one point I got myself stranded in an out-of-bounds area at the top of the friggin' mountain, where there were white-out conditions and blowing snow. At that point I cursed my stupid useless (still pretty) snowboard and trudged down the path towards more hard-packed snow, and a continuous pattern of shuffle-board-fall-undo bindings-shuffle-board-fall was the name of the game for the rest of the day. Finally got to mid-mountain and stopped caring how many times I was going to fall and started taking wild (for my taste) chances, quit the mountain altogether and took the gondola back to the bottom. Made some friends on the gondola though. Don't remember their names but neither of them were British or Australian.
After skiing we boozed and hot-tubbed and went to dinner, and then aimed to head to Buffalo Bill's but unfortunately were too tired to continue partying, we went back to the hotel room and crashed at 10:30. How lame.
Next day checked out late, headed home via Squamish and Cypress Mountain. The girls are continually impressed with how far their British pound goes here. Lucky bastards. They went to Seattle this morning while I had to check in to work. Yech.

good day, for the most part
one cup of coffee
1 garden salad
1 e-mail from client who changed jobs validating my existence at ISL (except, apparently I have no last name)
8 hershey kisses (needed afternoon sugar high)
3 hours of Scissor Sisters on repeat
30 minutes stretching/ab exercises
20 minutes on treadmill (155 calories burned) (ran into BIZNATCH)
40 minutes on elliptical trainer (355 calories burned)
minus 3 lbs from last time I checked.
1 litre of water
1 tuna sandwich
1 bowl of noodles
1 piece of lemon cake (post-workout reward)
3 episodes of Coupling Season 4
75% of my laundry is now done. Yay clean underwear.
You know what's funny about people who want to lose weight... after tracking mine over the last couple months or so I've realized that I've lost quite a bit of weight... and gained it back... but nonetheless, if one were to base weight-loss on a technicality... I'd say I'm on track to lose about 50 lbs this year. (And probably gain 40-45 back... but we're still talking technicalities... uh-huh, yeah right...)

here is a selection of photos from my birthday celebration in Whistler.
Blondes
dinner @ the Crab Shack
Rippin' it up at Buffalo Bill's (obviously before TDow & Luscious got whiplash from whipping their hair around to Bon Jovi)
Apparently, packs of girls in 8s cannot be ignored, and must be supplied with free drinks throughout the night.
Morning after at La Bocca. Our own private booth/room. The waitress was really spacy. "It's Whistler" is apparently the excuse for everything there.

Hey Dopey, how's your new best friend Mark? Is his monkey giving you problems?
These are my observations/comments for today:
I listened to the radio this morning on my way to work, Jack FM. They played "Home for a Rest" by Spirit of the West, a staple bar song at The Blarney Stone in Gastown... and you know whenever it comes on it's time to party... but I realized unless you're in a bar, drunk and dancing with a large group of similarly drunk university students, it's just not the same. It seems somehow more muted, if that's at all possible for Celtic rock... and obviously you can't do the jig while you're driving. (That requires more driving skill than I actually have.)
I took my car in for servicing this morning, again... had an appointment to replace the catalytic converter (on warranty) because it had been making rattling noises for almost a year. Originally I was told to bring it in two separate times because I had two warranty claims (the other was for the malfunctioning speedometer) otherwise the warranty company would think it suspect - I figured it was because they wanted to charge me the deductible twice. I figured, $100 is cheaper than $2000... so I had to agree to it... but just found out about half an hour ago that it was going to cost nothing for the second appointment! Yay Clarkdale! Actually, yay Jackie who is my new favourite Clarkdale CSR.
I got a loaner today, 2005 Passat, grey station wagon. NICE. My new ambition is to become a Kerrisdale mom... screw the career, man, if I had a car like that I'd want to just drive it around all day. I'd have kids just to drive them around in that car. Okay maybe not... (Whistler runs are good enough for me at this point.) Driving the car was great, it looks good but is a bit on the big side for me. The seat heaters didn't seem to be working but I'm not sure if I could tell if they were working or not because the seats were plush, not leather. There were less than 3000 kms on the odometer, so this was a pretty new car (still smelled new, too). The console was odd, though, it was angled towards the passenger, not the driver or straight forward which you would think made more sense. Didn't get to try out the tiptronic, but it was a smooth ride and moved FAST. Almost ran over a squirrel in the first five minutes the car was in my possession. Sadly, it's only mine for the next 45 minutes... [sigh]
Whistler/birthday pictures are forthcoming! Calm down!
